Workshop # 54 Potato Field

Workshop # 54 Potato Field

Before going to the painting I want to share a great site that my painter friend Meredith sent me... Savvypainter podcasts.... I am addicted.....very inspiring.... I even painted and listened at the same time. great to be exposed to so many painters and their thoughts and work process.

This another painting from WDE events last November hosted by Wendy aka Sundiver the Potato Field . Decided to post the stages of the painting.. so I can track the WIP.

Oils on 2 30 x 30 cm wrapped canvas using palette knife.... They can viewed as one piece or each as a separate piece.

WDE Challenges 17-10-14

Its been a while since I posted on the All Media Art Events at wetcanvas.  I have been lurking around and so I found the sad news that one of my favorite artists Deano had passed away..  Although I never met him in person I always enjoyed viewing his work, he was one of the first artists that I would look for on the forum. He always had kind words for any work I posted. This week the Host Kathy has dedicated the event to Deano and has challenged us to use his use his  red under painting.

This was done on corrugated cardboard 30 x 25 cm. I used my Neo Color crayons and added medium with a brush.

Some Quick Sketches

These past few weeks have been very difficult.... haven't been able to concentrate--- bring out paints...
Since I am not going to bring politics into this blog I will just leave it at that.

One evening I felt I had to get off some of the excess energy that was building up so decided to do some fast sketches on brown paper.  The references are from WDE event for July 18th. Each took about 1/2 an hour
25 x 35 cm Charcoal,chalk  and hard red sepia stick by KOH-I-NOOR.

I have one more to add to the collection... These fast sketches helped relieve the stress!!! Will do the same for this week's WDE

Workshop Chinese Vase with Lantern Flowers

Chinese Vase with Lantern Flowers

This is another entry in Wetcanvas WDE event for May 9th hosted by Mary aka Missswiss.
I really loved this reference and took it to my weekly workshop class.

Oils on cardboard  47 x 32 cm  Used brushes  palette knife and sandpaper for texture effects.
Took some progress shots.

The final background is much lighter .. I may tweak the table to ground the vase.   The vase seems to be flouting.. Thinking of bringing back some of the darks.

Daily Paintings February # 31

Daily Paintings  February  # 31

Ok... so what's with the 31... well 31 follows 30 and since I did 30 daily paintings in January I am continuing the numbering pattern....too 120 and counting. I did try doing 120 paintings from the result of a webinar with Larry Seiler  at wetcanvas.. but somewhere along the way ...need we say more!!! Decided this month to do more glass....until I get bored...the numbering will be only for the daily paintings and not my on going work that I do at my weekly workshop.

The reference is from WDE events at wetcanvas...

23 x 29 cm oils on gessoed corrugated cardboard.  I toned the canvas with a very dark grey green...done with a palette knife.
Would love feedback and constructive criticism....!!!!

Fushia flower from WDE on Wet canvas

Seems its been a long and hot summer.... workshop vacation for two months.... hard to get motivated... no excuses ... with the  beginning of  September and maybe some relief from the heat I am trying to get back into the swing,,, and develop a little more creative discipline... Recently I bought a workshop #24 on pre-mixing grays by Richard Robinson. I love working with grays but my first attempt was really not a success... got too carried away and it was just too muddy and fragmented.... I did do  a wde challenge  hosted by Connie done also using grays.... done on 400 gram cartridge paper ,next time I will coat the paper with either gesso or acrylic paint.... it also was quite dull so did a bit of  oil pastels and blended it with some medium. Size 19 x 19 cm

Did a tight crop to the Fushia Flower

 With added oil pastel

Doing another landscape from the references that I got with the workshop.... next post... still disappointed  but not giving in!!!
