January 30 x 30 Challenge #1 Drainage Pool View

January 30 x 30 Challenge  Hamei Yoav   View of Drainage Pool

A new year and a new art challenge!!! So Happy New Year to all and good luck on the challenge!!! A special thanks to Leslie for letting us participate in these unique challenges!!!

A time to put our creative juices running.   This is my third challenge and I am very excited first because of the subject and second is that I find myself less stressed then in previous challenges.   This time I will be using various media and formats, mostly small, mainly oils, crayons (Caran d'ache Neo Color I ) and maybe just pencil or charcoal sketches. My motto will be three S'es  Small  Simple Spontaneous.

My subject this time is Hamei Yoav our favorite spa..... with natural sulfur hot baths.... so this will give me a wide range of images which will include landscapes, trees and foliage, people, ducks and geese, and maybe even cats..... The spa is in the south near Kiryat Gat  and Ashkalon about a 45 minute drive.

My first entry is a general view of the fenced in drainage pool.  There is a nice walkway around the pool as well as umbrellas and chairs and tables for those that want to be outside.  The pool also is the home of many ducks and geese.

30 x 20 cm  Heavy Brown Paper Caran D'ache neocolor I, water resistant wax pastels and regular ballpoint pen.

Hidden under the labels is a link to Location and a google map... Its quite huge so in order to get where you are you have to make it smaller... so I pasted a small image of my location... Blue circle is starting point and red balloon is the spa.

# 1 Amonene Crayon Sketch

This is more or less a crayon sketch for a larger work that I started in my art workshop. I will be doing a series, 4 for a start , of some Israeli wildflowers. The work will be on 40 x 40 cm stretched canvases in oil mainly using palette knives. One main reason for the sketches is that I usually don't paint in one session... wet on wet... my colors get muddy ... I really want to get to the stage where I know what colors I want and put them down once...

Main concerns will be color, shapes and tonal mapping. I will be doing some digital sketches and crayon sketches which I wet with medium to create a more painterly patches.

Done on heavy paper 15x15 cm using oil/wax crayons [Carand'ache]
