Apple Pie Anyone

These were finished a while ago. Two small apple studies on wrapped canvas 30 x 25 cm. Oils done with a palette knife.  Actually I don't know if these are really finished. I stopped mainly because Heleni said they were done. Since I often ruin good starts, this may have been her reason. This is something I have to overcome, the fear of continuing. Working on it in another gender,

Workshop # 58 Potted Planter

Workshop # 58 Potted Planter

Fourth in the floral series.  May have been the first I started but worked simultaneously.  This was based on a crayon sketch of a potted planter that was done this past January on the 30 in 30 hosted by Leslie Seata.

Diluted oil washes with sketching and sanding for added texture. This is a WIP and I will update.

Workshop #55 Tulip in Bottle

Workshop  #55  Tulip in Bottle

This started out as a Challenge on DPW   hosted by Dianne Mannion beginning of April.  I downloaded the image and although I wanted to keep within the "rules" of the challenge it didn't turn out that way.  Didn't post it on the DPW page.

I have been experimenting with a wash technique that would incorporate sketching and diluted oils.  I also like to sand between layers which adds a bit of texture. May tweak this with some more pencil/crayon.  This is the first in a series of four florals.

 25 x 25 cm canvas on cardboard

I am so fortunate to get  some great canvas strips from my workshop artist and friend Traudi.  She buys whole rolls of canvas and cut them to size... Huge!!! and brings me the side strips... I cut these to size and glue them on  pressed grey cardboard.  I will be experimenting with different size formats.

# 55 Pots on Traudi's Window Sill Workshop

# 55 Pots on Traudi's Window Sill

Brunch at Traudi's is always a special event.  So many surprise dishes and tastes.  Sitting in the kitchen nook and looking out at the pastoral views.  I took a lot of window shots for inspiration.  Loved how the curtains made an instant frame for the pots and mobile.

Small Work #39 Small Green Box on Red Book

I am back to numbering my small works... daily or not so daily...

This is another color study using the technique of "broken color" as described in a video by Richard Robertson  This time I took a small green box and placed it on a red book, appropriately  "The Arts" by Hendrik Willem Van Loon. A book that belonged to my mother. I am enjoying working on paper, oils dry faster, and learning this new technique. Checking the BW version I can see some spots that need to be tweaked.

Color Exercize Broken Color

A while back I bought the video by Richard Robinson's on Broken Color... I don't recall  doing the exercise or if I did it probably didn't  come out very well.... so I decided today to give it a try.   Rearranged my computer/ painting table so that it would be easier to navigate for painting with my new table easel to the left , my computer screen in the middle  and in front of the monitor my palette and brushes/knives etc.

Fairly happy with the results... not perfect... but I did learn a lot... I scanned it and the colors are not exact.
I am definitively going to try some more and was pleased to see that the oils went on so well on the paper.
The trick is that the added colors on each plane or section are the same tonality.  See below the color and BW version... All in all I am happy... glad that I got a few hours of painting in....

Here is the BW... The right panel has some colors too bright and light.
Also in the left side some lights...

Workshop Chinese Vase with Lantern Flowers

Chinese Vase with Lantern Flowers

This is another entry in Wetcanvas WDE event for May 9th hosted by Mary aka Missswiss.
I really loved this reference and took it to my weekly workshop class.

Oils on cardboard  47 x 32 cm  Used brushes  palette knife and sandpaper for texture effects.
Took some progress shots.

The final background is much lighter .. I may tweak the table to ground the vase.   The vase seems to be flouting.. Thinking of bringing back some of the darks.

Workshop Historic House Dining-room

Historic House Dining-room

Many times I plan to take part in the WDE happenings on wet canvas but it just doesn't work out as   planned. I do however download interesting reference photos for further use. this was the case when Lisilk posted on event for May 2nd.  This is the interior of an historical house Li's description.
The George Adderley House is a historic house on Marathon Key, Florida. It is best noted for being one of the oldest homes in all of the keys that are located outside Key West. Also known as the Bahamian House, the George Adderley House traces its roots back to the 1890s, when the Adderley family migrated to the United States from the Bahamas. The house was built by the father, George. It is made out of Tabby, which is a concrete-like material that is made of burned conch and other locally collected shell. The house was once a part of an early Bahamian settlement. Today, the George Adderley House is operated as a part of Crane Point as a historic house museum.
Working again with  oils on pressed cardboard.  I did the whole interior plus a small close up of the table.

Daily Paintings Sketch

 Jug and Lemons Sketch

This is a test to see what I can do with blogger app on the tablet. So far I can't see how to add an image.  Last night I drew a sketch of the jug with lemons from a different view. Took a photo using the tablet so its here in the camera's gallery.

Success

I finally found where to put in the image but could not regulate the size...  Also could not write under the image... only in middle... couldn't find where to format text to the side.
Conclusions are that I don't think I'll keep the app... better to wait a day and do it properly.... or prepare the text and publish on the go....in the browser on the tablet....

This has been an exciting experience... very positive, has helped me in my self confidence...Got a lot of palette knife time which is important... learned to regulate my time better... and I hope improved my painting... I am off to the goal of 120!!!  I took a course with  Larry Seiler at wetcanvas about 120 paintings... had started but some it didn't stick   I hope this month proves that I CAN.. maybe not every day but almost....

Day 18 30 in 30 Challenge

Leslie's 30 in 30 Challenge

20 x 20 cm
Oils on cloth covered cutting board
Made it to day 18...

Actually painted this yesterday together with Day 17... Still with the blocks and palette knife.  Had a hard time with the foreshortened view of the block.   Tried to keep in mind blocks of color and not that it was a block.... Didn't photograph well... end of day.... blue is much more greenish grey.

Day 17 30 in 30 Challenge

Leslie's  30 in 30 Challenge

20 x 20 cm
Oil on clothe covered cutting board

Today's painting session was for me very therapeutic... started late... had lots on my mind but when I started painting it seemed as if I was in a space of my own.... don't know if the work shows this... that is not important... felt more in control of the knife.... white came our much to glaring ... all in all these blocks have been a good exercise. I like the orange color better than day 16!!!
