Red Abstract #4

Here is #4. Actually, Heleni said that it was done at #3 but I felt I could push it a little since I wasn't satisfied with the red and yellow areas. So added a bit brighter red, alizarin crimson, from the tube.

Still not exactly what I want...

Just looked at Dotty's #9 and decided maybe marks with crayons or oil pastels may make the change I need. Thanks, Dotty!!! The paint is dry so I hope the marks will work and not work as a scratch tool!

Thirty in Thirty Day 29 What If

Can't believe that this is almost the end of the challenge!!!! Usually, around this time I feel washed out, but now I feel that I have just got started, ready to continue.

Well, what a strange title.... What If.... well you all know that sometimes you think while painting, what if I put this color, what if I scrape [love scraping] this out etc. Well, this painting was built on what-ifs... First decided that .. what if I use my crayons instead of wet paint. What if I applied some medium... what if another layer... what if more crayon strokes etc.

I learned a lot of what the crayons could and could not do on canvas.... couldn't put more than 2 layers... couldn't crayon after the medium, have to wait for it to dry...

# 66 Poppies Peeking

# 66 Poppies Peeking

Our garden is nothing to speak about but early spring our yards are filled with wild poppies. This photo taken 2012.  We didn't have many in the front this year but on the sides and back were many.  This little group was taken behind some Hollyhock foliage.

# 64 Composition in Red

# 64 Composition in Red

First about the colors.... a while back I bought, on sale, a large tube of  Maimori Red Ochre... I love the rich earthy tone.  Have been using this paint for toning and mixes with other reds.

This painting had better layers... but the process is in learning... oils, cold wax, palette knife, scratch tools

Speaking of the learning and working process I sometimes find it difficult getting back into the zone that I was in when I first started the painting.  My beginnings are much better than most of my finished work.
