Oil and Water Don't Mix Or Do They

I see painting as an evocative magic, and there must always be a random factor in magic, one which must be constantly changed and renewed. (William S. Burroughs)

Recently I received an online newsletter from Caran d Ache with an interesting video using both wax and water soluble crayons.  These small sketches were made using white wax crayon with charcoal and water soluble pencils with water medium.  Trying to discover how they react to each other. Both I would call WIPS because I may go back to these. This mixture is worth more experimentation!

Here are 2 sketches trying out this technique! Both done on watercolor paper in my sketch pad.

I was really debating whether to do the September challenge.  I have had a difficult time getting back into the creative mode since the passing of my sister this past May. Then I realized that this is the very reason that I should take part. I usually use these challenges to learn new things, to try to get out of the "box" so to speak, Another factor in my decision was that my art workshop will not be starting until November so there is no excuse to take part;

Some of my work will be small 4 x 6 postcard size that I will use to make greeting cards. some may be exercises in Gelli prints, a technique I am learning.

I have been experimenting with cutting up some of my work into postcard size to use as greeting cards. Decided to make starts on some heavy paper around 8 x 12 " and cut them into the smaller sections to work with. While doing these starts I want to make the sections different. I will be using a variety of mediums, some dry, some wet, collage, and pencil or charcoal.

The Dome II

A thing is complete when you can let it be. (Gita Bellin)

Dome

This has been sitting around... making new marks ... leaving it and then back. Is this painting? Every few days a new something or other. I don't have the answer! But it seems to be like that for a few pieces I have been working on.

Then I thought OK I like it. It's done!!!  Photographed and looked at on the computer and not quite sure again!

Dome III

Well, have decided to post it! Maybe another day I will add a mark or two but have grown attached.
Like the mysterious people coming out of the rocks!
